Joshua Todd found guilty for gouging out victim’s eye
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — On April 23, 2026, in the Circuit Court of Gibson County, Joshua Todd was found guilty of Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Assault on a First Responder. He faces a maximum sentence of 11 years in the Tennessee Department of Correction.
Todd will be sentenced by the Honorable Clayburn Peeples on May 4.
On October 12, 2021, Todd and his girlfriend parked their truck in a field down the road from Simmons Trailer Park in Trenton, where a friend of Todd’s resided. They were living out of their vehicle after Todd convinced his girlfriend to abandon her residence and give away most of her personal property.
Todd became increasingly aggressive, telling the victim that her eyes were “serpent eyes” and needed to be removed. She ran from the vehicle, but he gave chase and attacked the victim, violently gouging out her left eyeball and throwing it on the ground. He attempted to gouge out her right eye, but she was able to break free and run to the friend’s camper.
Law enforcement responded and took Todd into custody after a struggle, where Todd used force against one of the officers, knocking off his bodycam.
The victim was airlifted to a hospital to undergo emergency surgery, which required an implant in her orbital socket and eventually a prosthetic eye attached.
“Our prosecutors Nina Seiler and Jacob London did a great job of handling this case and presenting the testimony and evidence against a defendant that insisted on representing himself to disrupt the trial proceedings. We are thankful as always for the Jury’s service, and we hope this has given them an appreciation for the judicial system, as highlighted by the victim’s courage in testifying, Law Enforcement’s bringing the case to Court, and all the professionals involved in the local Court System. This is a very unusual violent case, and we hope we won’t see another one like it. We are especially thankful to the Victim for her strength in confronting the defendant and hope she feels some sense of justice after this verdict.” said Frederick H. Agee, District Attorney General.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Nina Seiler and Jacob London, assisted by Office Investigator Jimmy Wilson, Legal Secretary Xochilt Joyner, and Assistant Victim/Witness Coordinator Angela Sellers. We thank Officers Will Williams, Adrian Pillow, and Joseph Martinez for their hard work and testimony.
Special thanks to Courtroom Officers Adrian Sturdivant, Cordale Dance, Christine Combs, Twila Claybon, and Hunter Long.
