Outdoor enthusiasts learn the health benefits of getting outside and enjoying nature
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.– An annual event returns for spring and especially for wildlife enthusiasts.
Sunday, the ‘Hatchie Birdfest’ was held at Willow Oaks Flower Farm in Brownsville.
Guests attended sessions to learn more about native birds that live in the area and nature overall.
The session covered why being in nature is important and how it can help over all mental health.
“If you’re birder, nature photographer, hiker, kayaker, whatever, that’s a way in which can feed that sense of connection. So, practice those, what we might call or local positive psychologists call, your savoring skills. How do you savor this experience,” said Bob Raines, a retired psychologist.
Raines stated that spending time in nature can correlate with lower crime rates, lower stress from work, and overall positivity and happiness.
