NAACP Raises Aids Awareness

JACKSON, Tenn.- On Tuesday, the Tennessee State Conference of the NAACP and Jackson-Madison County branch of the NAACP held an HIV/AIDS awareness forum. The organizers of the event wanted to communicate the message that AIDS does not have to be a death sentence. During the program, they talked about knowing the facts and AIDS prevention and intervention. The event themed “Getting to Zero” focused on just that, getting the number of new diagnosis down to zero as well as the death rate. “We’re trying to get the information out to make sure that people understand that this disease is still here that it is no joke HIV/AIDS does kill that prevention is what we need to be trying to do,” said Gloria Sweet-Love, president of the State NAACP. More than 1 million Americans live with the HIV infection and an estimated 33.3 million people globally.
