Family and Friends Remember Shooting Death Victim

MILAN, Tenn. – With a gun blast and a blink of an eye, a young life is lost. Those who best knew 20-year-old Titus Middlebrook want to make sure his legacy lives on. “He was like my brother and it’s like we’ve done been through a lot together, and I still can’t believe he’s gone,” Troy Latham said, who considers Middlebrook a brother. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Middlebrook was shot and killed while driving in Humboldt, Sunday night. “Push come to shove, he wouldn’t have harmed anyone,” said Deanna Cunningham, who calls herself Middlebrook’s second mother. “There was no reason for this to happen.” “It was a mistake,” Latham said. “They got the wrong person. They must have.” Troy and Titus met at school at a young age. The two boys’ bond was undeniable, and Deanna treated Middlebrook like her second son. “He knew our struggles,” Cunningham said. “He could reach out to Troy. The two of them had a bond out of this world, and it’s like Titus needed us and we needed Titus.” Though they will never speak to him again, Troy and Deanna will never forget the young man who entered their lives as a friend but quickly became family. “I know he’s in a better place, and I know he’s going to be Troy’s guardian angel and he’s going to look after him,” Cunningham said. “We’ll definitely make sure we keep his memory alive.”
