Overtime lawsuit against MDOC dismissed

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Federal court records in shows a lawsuit over alleged unpaid overtime wages against the Mississippi Department of Corrections was dismissed Nov. 30.
Court records show Myia Norwood, a six-year correctional officer, filed the complaint April 11 in U.S. District Court in Jackson. MDOC officials say Norwood remains employed with the agency.
Documents show the dismissal order came after Norwood failed to file by Nov. 18 a notice letting the court whether she and others intended to pursue their claims.
The court set that deadline after Norwood’s former attorneys told the court they had been unable to contact her and the other plaintiffs. The lawsuit did not say where Norwood worked in the prison system.
Norwood was seeking overtime pay and unspecified damages.
