Adopt-A-Teen Program Still Needs Donations

NORTH JACKSON — More than 300 teenagers will have a brighter Christmas thanks to an outpouring of local donations. Carl Perkins Exchange Club is hosting its annual Adopt-A-Teen program this year, which allows less fortunate teenagers the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with gifts. For $100, sponsors of the program allow social workers to take the teenagers shopping for items that they need, such as clothes, perfume, pajamas and art supplies. “There are people in the community that care about them even though they may not even know them, they do care about them and hopefully it will change a life,” Rita McCaslin, organizer of Adopt-A-Teen said. This program has been going on since 1997, when the organization had 18 teens in need of sponsoring. This year, 338 teens were adopted, and as of right now, 18 are left.
