Marvin Sikes, New Humboldt Mayor, Has Plans for City

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — Less than 24-hours after getting elected, Humboldt’s new mayor is already making plans for his term in office. Marvin Sikes says he hopes to make Humboldt a better place. He beat Thomas “Redd” Porter in Tuesday’s runoff election by garnering 70 percent of the vote. Sikes, who says he’s lived in Humboldt his entire life, says he looks forward to continuing his service to his city. “The city is in my heart and it just feels good to be here and be a part of the maybe the solution,” Marvin Sikes, Humboldt mayor said. Sikes is set to be sworn in before the end of 2013, however that date hasn’t been set. Sikes will take office Jan. 1.
