Woman Charged with Shoplifting, Police Also Seize Vehicle

NORTH JACKSON — A woman has been charged with shoplifting more than $1000 worth of merchandise. Jackson police also seized her vehicle, which was used in the crime. Norma Williams a.k.a. Norma Tucker-Williams, 41, of Savannah, was arraigned Thursday morning in Jackson City Court on charges of felony theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and a 6th offense of driving on a revoked driver’s license. Around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, police were called about a shoplifting a Belk at the Old Hickory Mall, 2021 N. Highland Avenue. Loss prevention personnel had observed Williams shoplift items inside Belk and leave the store. Officers spotted the vehicle and observed Williams driving on Old Hickory Blvd. Police stopped Williams and found the stolen clothes and jewelry in her SUV. Personnel at Belk determined the stolen property value at $1390. Officers also found a marijuana grinder in Williams’ purse. A check of Williams’ driver’s license showed her status as revoked with multiple prior offenses. Williams was arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail. Investigators also seized her SUV pursuant to the law that allows the seizure of vehicles used in conveyance of stolen property in excess of $500. Williams was arraigned Thursday morning in Jackson City Court, and her bond was set at $10,000. Her next scheduled court appearance is 9:30 a.m. Jan. 16 in Jackson City Court. She remains in custody at the Madison County Jail in lieu of bond.
