Military Kids Get A Surprise For Christmas

BOLIVAR, Tenn. — Santa arrived a few days early by helicopter and greeted children of local deployed soldiers, Monday. “Christmas is a special time and knowing that their fathers are thousands of miles away protecting our country is a sad time for them,” Jimmy Sain of Tennessee Helicopter Services said. This is the third year Sain’s company has flown Santa in to surprise families feeling the absence of a loved one who is deployed for the holidays. “If this takes their mind off of it for at least an hour, it’s worth it,” Sain said. Santa took at least a dozen kids to Wal-Mart and allowed them to pick out toys for Christmas. “It was so much fun with Santa,” said Chloe Frazier, whose mom and dad are both soldiers. “He let us have the toys we wanted.” Nikki Brown’s husband is in Afghanistan and she said the holidays aren’t the same without him. “As one of my kids said, we’re just not in the Christmas spirit,” Brown said. “But surprises like this puts them in a better mood.” Several businesses throughout Hardeman County donated money this year to make sure children missing their parents are able to have a Merry Christmas.
