Update: Bells Fire Victims Receive Big Donations

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Some good news after a tragic Christmas fire left one family in Bells homeless after the holidays. Just hours after the family’s story aired on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News, family members said they received an outpouring of donations. The family said the generous donations included major necessities such as a hospital bed, wheelchairs, walkers, diapers, clothes and oxygen tanks. “It’s a miracle, the outpouring of people’s emotions during Christmas I just cannot believe it…it’s amazing,” said fire victim Raymond Woodward. Fire officials said the fire was started in the kitchen while Raymond Woodward was cooking a Christmas meal. Woodward ran to save his elderly mom and sister and was able to get them outside. He said he got 2nd degree burns to his arm and hands. Fire officials spent three hours putting out the blaze. The home was a total loss. Woodward said his family was only left with one wheelchair and in desperate need for medical supplies. After seeing the story on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News, family members said some residents drove all the way to Bells, TN from Jackson to deliver food and shoes. “People like that… there’s a spot in heaven for them already waiting. It’s just amazing.Thank you so much to everybody,” said Kelly Woodward. If you would like to continue helping this family look for their list of needs on the Seen on 7 section of our website.
