Henderson Woman Loses Home in Early Morning Fire

HENDERSON, Tenn. — A house built in 1948 was destroyed in only two hours, on Saturday. Regina East, the homeowner, was asleep as flames consumed the house she’s lived in all of her life. “My mother had just died a couple years ago and she had always kept a lot of the family memorabilia so all that’s gone,” East said. Firefighters in Henderson say the house on White Ave., was engulfed by the blaze around 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, and when they got there the fire was in the garage. At one point officials say the flames rose higher than trees surrounding the home, making it dangerous for firefighters to go inside. Firefighters say once they arrived at the house the fire had gone through the roof and spread to the attic. At that point they realized the house was a total loss. Officials say the owner’s life was spared thanks to her smoke detector. “And even though I thought about turning around going back up and trying to get my purse, I.D., credit cards and all that, I thought it’s not worth it,” East said. East says for now she’s staying with relatives in Henderson. Firefighters say they’re still unsure what caused the fire.
