Businesses Prepare For A Safe New Year’s Eve

JACKSON, Tenn — Local business owners said it’s a community effort to make sure streets are safe as residents celebrate the New Year. “There’s always a concern of people drinking too much,” Trent Alford, owner of Redbone’s Grill and Bar, said. “It’s a night where you have to pay more attention to your guests for signs of intoxication,” Ashley Hays, a bartender at the restaurant said. That’s why Redbone’s Grill and Bar is doing their part to help locals celebrate safely. They’ve teamed up with All Suites Hotel across the street to offer discount rates to their customers who don’t want to drive home after a night of drinking. “If someone who doesn’t have reservations needs a place to stay we can steer them that way,” Alford said. Local taxi companies are also on standby, shutting down early on Monday so their drivers are well-rested for extended New Year’s Eve hours. “We have cops that call us and bar owners that tell us that patrons need to be picked up,” Marlina Milan, of Affordable Taxi Services, said. According to The Tennessee Highway Patrol, nine people were killed in eight fatal crashes during New Year’s Eve, last year. So this holiday, local business owners said they’re working together to save lives.
