Tennessee student-athletes post 3.02 GPA in fall

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee student-athletes have exceeded a 3.0 grade point average in consecutive semesters for the first time since the school started recording sport-by-sport data on the subject in 2003.

The school announced Monday that student-athletes posted a cumulative GPA of 3.02 during the 2013 fall semester. This marks the first time since the school started measuring the data in 2003 that Tennessee has exceeded a 3.0 GPA in a fall semester. Tennessee student-athletes had a 3.05 GPA in the 2013 spring semester and 2.97 in the 2012 fall semester.

Tennessee’s football team posted a 2.64 GPA, up from 2.49 in the 2012 fall semester and 2.08 in the 2011 fall semester.

Fifty-four percent of student-athletes posted a GPA of 3.0 or above, up from 51 percent in the 2012 fall semester.
