Teacher Accused of Threatening Student With Fake Gun

CHESTER COUNTY, Tenn. – Family of a Chester County High School freshman are outraged their daughters math teacher is still in charge of a classroom. Kari Austin said a teacher at the high school, Claire Wilder, pointed a fake gun at her daughter, pulled the trigger and allegedly said something along the lines of, “I wish this was real.” “I could not breathe,” said Austin recalling her daughter, Lauren, telling her of the incident. “I was beside myself with anger that a teacher would do this to her in front of all those kids.” Austin said the incident happened before the school let out for Christmas break. Chester County Director of Schools Cherrie Pipken told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that they are aware of the situation in Wilder’s classroom. In a brief statement Pipkin said, “appropriate action was taken and the teacher has been disciplined.” The family said they have taken Lauren out of the classroom, and do not plan on letting her return until the school board removes Wilder from the high school. “You just can’t even imagine how upset I am about this. Had Lauren done this to Ms. Wilder she wouldn’t be back in school. They wouldn’t let her back in school,” expressed Austin. Austin said she plans on filing an order of protection against the teacher.
