Local Businessman Charged After Police Say He Assaulted County Attorney

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Jackson police have charged a local businessman with assaulting Madison County Attorney Steve Maroney after a meeting, Tuesday. Wednesday morning, police charged Geoffrey Todd Krasner with simple assault and served him with a criminal summons in lieu of an arrest warrant. Krasner has a maximum of 10 business days or until 3 p.m. Jan. 23 to report to the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex for booking and processing. Afterward, Krasner is required to appear at 8 a.m. the following business day for a formal arraignment in Jackson City Court. At 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, police were called about an assault at the Madison County Finance Department located at 1981 Hollywood Drive. Maroney told officers that after a committee meeting, Krasner shoved him in the back in the restroom. While at the scene, officers also spoke with Krasner. After interviewing Maroney and Krasner, investigators charged Krasner.
