Man Accused of New Year’s Eve Carjacking Appears in Court

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The man accused of carjacking and robbing a man he met online appeared in court, Thursday afternoon. Andrew Taylor, 19, waived his preliminary hearing and his case was sent to the Grand Jury. Shortly before 8 p.m. on Dec. 31, police were called to North Park on Demonbreun Drive. A 19-year-old man from Pocahontas told officers that he had met Taylor on a social media website, and the man had come to Jackson to meet up with Taylor. The victim drove to Jackson, picked Taylor up, and they went to North Park. When they arrived, Taylor pulled a gun and robbed the victim of his cell phone, cash and took the victim’s car. Officers recovered the car later that night at a vacant house on Leewood Cove. Taylor was arrested Wednesday evening and transported to the Madison County Jail. Taylor’s remains in custody at the Madison County Jail in lieu of his $100,000 bond.
