22-Year-Old Woman Charged in Connection With Two Robberies

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Jackson police have arrested Jennifer Morris, who was wanted for a robbery Tuesday that involved a taser, and have charged her with a similar December robbery of an elderly woman. Jackson police arrested Morris, 22, around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. She is being held at the Madison County Jail. Police were called about the robbery around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. A 76-year-old woman told officers that Morris, who is an acquaintance, came to her home on Ellis Drive around 2 p.m. The victim and Morris were discussing a matter. When the victim wasn’t looking, Morris tased her several times in the neck. The victim was able to knock the Taser out of Morris’ hand. Morris then strangled the victim. The victim asked Morris what she wanted, and Morris demanded money. The victim complied and wrote Morris a check. Morris then took the check and left the home. Investigators noticed that Morris matched the description of a similar that occurred around 10:30 a.m. Dec. 12. An 82-year-old Jackson woman was on the parking lot of Batteries Plus on Innsdale Cove off of Vann Drive. The woman was sitting in her car conducting a transaction with Batteries Plus because she had trouble getting out of her car. While the woman waited for the employee to return to her car, she was approached by a young woman who would be the robber. The young woman was a stranger to the elderly woman. The young woman demanded the victim’s wallet. When the victim hesitated, the suspect pulled a weapon described as a “stun gun” and threatened the victim. The suspect then reached into the victim’s purse that was laying in the car seat and took her wallet. The suspect was able to get away and the case had remained unsolved. Investigators noted distinct similarities in the Dec. 12 robber’s description and Morris’ description. Further investigation determined that Morris was responsible for the December robbery. Morris is scheduled to be arraigned via video link at 8 a.m. Friday on two counts of aggravated robbery.
