President of the University of Tennessee Visits Jackson

WEST JACKSON — The president of the University of Tennessee system spent some time in Jackson, Wednesday. Dr. Joe DiPietro, gave some people in West Tennessee an update on the UT system. The UT leader talked about academics, athletics and other issues that face the system that has campuses all across the state. Dr. DiPietro says he feels the future is bright for the system even with the challenges higher education is facing especially when it comes to finances. He says the system is working to contain cost and conserve. “We have concerns about old buildings that are outdated and old laboratories particularly, you look at UT Martin and their engineering building, that we need to be re-upped and modernized and we need to find the money to do that kind of thing.” Dr. DiPietro oversees all of the campuses in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis, and Martin, plus the institute of agriculture center.
