Lane College Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

EAST JACKSON — One local college is remembering one of America’s civil rights pioneers. In celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Lane College honored Dr. King during chapel convocation, Wednesday. Daryl Hubbard, Jackson city court clerk and author was the featured speaker. He urged students to learn from Dr. King and work to make the world a better place. “Chapel is part of our tradition,” Darlette Samuels, executive assistant to the president, said. “It is set in stone in our mission. So every Wednesday, students, faculty and staff will come together every Wednesday and this is our church service.” Hubbard is the first full-time African-American elected official in Jackson’s history. He is currently in his fourth year of his four-year term.
