Vandals damage schools buses in Elizabethton
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) – School buses are running again in an East Tennessee district after vandalism suspended service on Monday.
Elizabethton City Schools Superintendent Ed Alexander said the nearby school districts of Johnson City, Washington County, Carter County and Unicoi County donated use of their buses to help get students to school on Tuesday.
Alexander told the Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/1bmZ4JA) that he decided on Monday not to send out school buses for students after it was discovered that sugar had been poured into the tanks of nine vehicles and the tires slashed on two. The district has 13 frontline buses to transport children.
Alexander said he wasn’t sure yet how much damage the vandalism had caused. He called the damage “malicious” and said officials are seeking those responsible and intend to prosecute them.
