East Tenn. to see dry weather before rain, snow
MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) – Meteorologists say areas in East Tennessee can expect a short period of dry weather before a system brings rain and snow to the region.
The National Weather Service in Morristown said snowfall on Wednesday and early Thursday blanketed parts of the region. Up to 16 inches of snow was reported in the Newfound Gap in Sevier, while Chattanooga received about 7 inches and Knoxville’s airport got about 6 inches.
The snow led Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials to close two visitor centers and park headquarters Thursday.
Meteorologist Derek Eisentrout said the region can expect clear weather from Thursday night into Friday afternoon.
Rain and snow were then expected to fall later Friday, with snowfall totals expected to be from one-tenth of an inch up to 2 inches.
