Alleged Drunk Driver Knocks Out Power For Hours

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — Officers in Humboldt arrested a man they say knocked down a power pole while driving drunk, early Friday morning. Around 2:30 a.m., officers were called to East Main Street about a power outage caused by a power pole being knocked down. Officers then observed a vehicle traveling West on Main Street with severe damage in the front. The driver, Donald Kevin Andrews, 57, was arrested after officers pulled him over and determined that he was the one who hit the pole. Andrews, of Jackson, has been charged with DUI of the 3rd Offense, Simple Possession of Schedule VI (Marijuana), Simple Possession of Schedule II (Cocaine), Violation of Open Container Law, Violation of the Implied Consent Law and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. A large part of the city was without power, and the Humboldt Utility Department was on the scene Friday afternoon to repair the damage.
