MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.– A bill in the state legislature could make Daylight Saving Time permanent in Tennessee. “I’ve always said I wish it’d be one way or the other,” Jimmy Stanford, a farmer, said. Stanford owns a farm in Madison County and supports the proposal. “We wouldn’t have to be as much in the dark,” Stanford said. “That’s a good thing.” Stanford sometimes works long hours into the night. “I’d rather have the daylight saving time because I don’t like, I can’t see as well at dark,” he said. Neill Bartlett owns HaliHannigan‘s Cupcakery in North Jackson. He supports the bill. “We’re excited,” Bartlett said. “I think anytime that the daylight saving can be extended it’s gonna get people out and about.” Bartlett says more sunlight means more business for him. “Anytime that it’s lighter, we’ve got people out and about enjoying themselves, they’re gonna come out and you know grab a treat, grab some food,” he said. The bill heads to the State Government Committee next week. Opponents of the bill worry the change would be confusing for residents and tourists. If the bill passes, it would take effect July 1.
