NORTHWEST JACKSON — Students at the University School of Jackson learned hard work pays off, Friday. They presented the American Cancer Society with a $10,000 check. The students raised the money through their relay for life Walk-a-Thon last October. Around 260 middle school students participated in the event at the track in Kirkland Stadium and say their focus was their families. “We wanted to do it to just help the people with cancer and we know a lot of people have been effected by it,” Jude Anderson, a USJ Student said. “It’s a big factor in today’s world and we feel that just helping people out is a good thing to do.” In past years, USJ has earned the gold medal team award for the amount they have raised. For the first time, the USJ middle school students earned an emerald medal team award for the new, larger amount.
