Woman Wanted for Assaulting Mother and Infant in Court

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The woman wanted for assaulting a mother and infant in December was in court Thursday morning. Jocilyn Taylor, 22, is facing charges of simple assault on Sherita Phelps and reckless aggravated assault on Phelps’ 4-month-old daughter. Around 12:50 p.m. Dec. 17, police responded to a disturbance call at Royal Arms Apartments, 1580 N. Royal Street. The investigation determined that Phelps was bringing her daughter to see the father. The father is also Taylor’s boyfriend. Phelps knocked on the door while holding the infant. Taylor answered the door and started hitting Phelps. The attack caused Phelps to drop her daughter. The infant landed on her head and was seriously injured. The infant was transported to a local hospital and was transferred to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis with a skull fracture. The infant has been released from the hospital.
