Resolution to display national motto stalls

KINGSTON, Tenn. (AP) – Officials in Roane County have sent a proposal to display the national motto, “In God We Trust,” to a committee for further review.

The Roane County Commission decided on Monday not to vote on the measure proposed by Commissioner Randy Ellis. His resolution calls for posting the motto over the main entrance of the county courthouse and in the room where commissioners meet.

It would follow similar actions taken in Anderson and Morgan counties.

WVLT (http://bit.ly/1sIHmtU) reports instead of voting, officials opted to send the proposal to the property committee, which will look at the issue further and recommend whether to approve it.

If approved, the cost of placing the motto in both locations would be covered by private donations.
