Weakley County man beaten and robbed inside home

MARTIN, Tenn. — Investigators say a West Tennessee man was robbed at gunpoint and beaten with a riffle during a home invasion. Martin Police are investigating the robbery which happened on Moody Street across from the UT Martin campus. Captain Don Teal with the Martin Police Department says when officers arrived, the home was in shambles. “His house was ransacked,” Capt. Teal said. “Some property was stolen and the entire house seemed to be vandalized.” Stephanie West lives next door to the home that was robbed and says it’s a relatively safe area. “I mean this is a quiet neighborhood,” West said. “We haven’t had any problems. I’m totally surprised about what went on, on the corner, because we haven’t heard anything.” Police say Oliver woke up to find four men standing over his bed. They got away with more than $500 in electronics and hit him multiple times in the head with a rifle. “When officers arrived he was pretty bloody, but after they cleaned him up and the doctors checked him out,” Capt. Teal said. “The injuries were minor and he was released.” Martin Police say even though the area is not known for crime, residents should keep an eye out. Stephanie West says she’s going to double check her locks. “I will make sure my doors are locked now for real,” West said. “Also that we lock up all of the vehicles.” Investigators say Oliver was a victim of a random act and no other homes in the area were robbed. Martin Police say they are currently working on a few leads, but have not made any arrests. Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Martin police or Crime Stoppers.
