“Take One” program mentors former prisoners
JACKSON, Tenn.- Training began Wednesday for mentors planning to help men and women get ready to transition from life in prison to life on the outside. Members of faith based organizations met at Macedonia Baptist Church Wednesday morning to learn how to mentor for “Take One,” a community based idea. After training with the Tennessee Department of Corrections, organizations will mentor one offender for a year after they are released. “We’re gonna match them up with the churches that best suit their needs and we’re gonna make sure we have our clinical case managers that will be doing a thorough study of each inmate,” said Deborah Thompson with the Tennessee Dept. of Corrections. This is the first year of the program and it is voluntary for offenders. The program already has a few mentees but officially begins in July. To find out how to get involved, go to the “Seen on 7” section.
