Tipton County man charged in wife’s shooting death

MUNFORD, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a Tipton County man has been charged in the fatal shooting of his wife.

The Tipton County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that 26-year-old William Christopher Rains has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge in the death of 26-year-old Laura Ann Rains.

Deputies responded to an accidental shooting call at a house in Munford Brighton on Jan. 6.

The sheriff’s office says William Rains indicated his wife was handing him a pistol when the weapon fired, striking her once in the head. Laura Rains died at a Memphis hospital.

William Rains is out of jail on a $50,000 bond. He is awaiting trial scheduled for later this year.
