Jackson International Food and Art Festival
Jackson‘s first International Food and Art Festival grew from the work of the Citizens‘ Commission on Unity, formed by Mayor Gist, to help our community grow in understanding of the diversity which makes Jackson. The mission of the Citizens‘ Commission on Unity was, and still is, to foster cultural exchange to create a spirit of education and non-violence. The commission looked at many ways to bring different people together and from this effort the Jackson International Food and Art Festival was born. The festival will take place 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday, October 4, 2014 Court Square in Downtown Jackson. The parade will consist of the following: “¢

Booths (Merchandise or Business, Artists and Craftsman, Cultural Activities and Demonstrations) Co-chairs Dr. Sandra Dee, Eduardo Morales, and James Theus, Jr., have planned a great event to foster the city‘s different cultures to a spirit of sharing, education and non-violence. They are accompanied by the following institutions: City of Jackson and Mayor‘s Office, The Jackson Arts Council, Jackson-Madison County Library, Jackson Downtown Development Corporation, Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau, Union University, Lane College, Jackson State Community College and several other local colleges, clubs, and civic groups Numerous cultural groups have committed to participate in the festival including Japan, India, Mexico, and The Philippines.
