ETSU to hold marathon reading of ‘Paradise Lost’
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) – East Tennessee State University is holding a marathon reading of John Milton’s 1667 epic poem “Paradise Lost,” and it’s inviting the public to help.
“Paradise Lost” depicts a war among the angels, Satan being cast into hell and the temptation of Adam and Eve.
The reading takes place on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ETSU President Brian Noland will kick the event off as the first reader, and visitors are invited to participate in reading some of the poem’s 10,000 lines.
During the reading, illustrated copies of the poem from the 17th through 20th centuries will be on display along with student art inspired by the poem.
The reading takes place in ETSU’s D.P. Culp University Center in the Forum room.
