Near Record Numbers Vote in Early Voting Period

JACKSON, Tenn.- As of 6 p.m., Thursday, early voting had ended in Tennessee. It has been a very busy early voting season, but according to early figures, it has not been an historic one. The latest figures from the Madison County Election Commission showed close to 25,000 voters have cast early ballots, which is more than 36 percent of registered voters. Statewide, as of Wednesday, more than 1.3 million early votes had been cast in the first 13 days of early voting. Experts said the final day of early voting was typically the largest single-day turnout. So far, at least in Madison County, having a required ID to vote has not been a real issue. “We’ve had one provisional ballot in all of those voters, all of those 25,000 who was not able to show photo ID,” said Kim Buckley of the Madison Co. Election Commission. If you were unable to vote early, you still can on Election Day, which is next Tuesday, November 6. Polls in most areas are open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Fore exact times, you may call your county election commission office.
