Winter storm closes most roads in Smokies

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Most of the roads in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have been closed because of inclement weather.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1ANdC5p) reports all roads in the park will be closed Tuesday except for the following: Newfound Gap Road from Gatlinburg to Sugarlands Visitor Center, the Spur between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, and Newfound Gap Road from Cherokee to Smokemont Campground.

On Monday, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency declared a state of emergency in Tennessee following a storm that blanketed the state with a wintry mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain, making traveling hazardous.
