JACKSON, Tenn. — 4-H groups across the state of Tennessee are campaigning to get more calcium into the hands of the community through the Great American Milk Drive. Each region in Tennessee is competing until the end of June to raise the most milk donations via a unique URL on the Milk Life website. The winning region will have donations matched up to 1,000 gallons at the end of the month. Sharron Tubbs with the Madison County 4-H office says the goal is to get rid of sugary sodas and put more authentic milk back in the hands of the almost 20,000 residents living with a food insecurity in Madison County. According to Milk Life, Tennessee has received more than 11,600 gallons of milk via monetary donations, but the state as a whole needs to provide to more than 1 million people.
