HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A Henderson County Sheriff’s Office employee was arrested Thursday morning by Lexington police. “Shocked — it’s just one of those things. You just take the hand you’re dealt and move forward,” Sheriff Brian Duke said. The reaction from Duke comes after one of his own finds herself on the wrong side of the law and inside a cell at the Henderson County Criminal Justice Complex. Duke said jail employee Mary Lindsey was arrested early Thursday morning in Lexington. Lindsey was charged with domestic assault and DUI. She was then booked into the Henderson County Jail, a place she had worked for more than three years. “The Lexington Police Department will handle the whole situation and made the arrest,” Duke said. “We basically stepped back from it.” Duke said Lindsey has been suspended without pay while both an internal and criminal investigation play out. The sheriff says Lindsey started with the department as a corrections officer but recently was promoted to a new position as a internal jail inspector. Because of her familiarity with inmates, Duke said he was forced to put her in isolation for her own safety. “Under the law, you are innocent till you are proven guilty,” Duke said. “We want to wait before we do too much and see what the facts are when they come out.” After a mandatory 12-hour hold, Lindsey posted a $2,000 bond and was released.
