More than 170 Elvis artifacts to be auctioned at Graceland
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – More than 170 authenticated Elvis Presley artifacts are up for auction Thursday evening at the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s longtime Memphis, Tennessee, home.
Presley died at age 42 on Aug. 16, 1977, and the auction at Graceland is part of Elvis Week, the annual commemoration of his death.
Highlights of the 174 artifacts include a “Starburst” jumpsuit Presley wore during concerts in Las Vegas in 1973; a diamond and gold pendant he gave Sammy Davis Jr.; and a jacket Presley wore during the popular dance scene with Ann-Margret in the 1964 MGM classic “Viva Las Vegas”.
Graceland Auctions managing director Laura Pickett says all the artifacts are from third party collectors; nothing is owned by Graceland. This is the third auction, which is held on Presley’s birthday and during Elvis Week.
