JACKSON, Tenn. — A critically beaten dog, left to die in a dumpster has been reunited with its owner. The miniature poodle, nicknamed “Winston Churchill” has been recovering at a Jackson veterinary clinic since Monday. Jackson Animal Control officers rescued the dog when he was tossed into a dumpster after being severely beaten. His owner, Billie Jo Ganow said Winston, whom she calls “Baby Boy” went missing Monday morning. “I let him out to use the bathroom. When I went to bring him in I was getting ready to leave, he was gone,” she said. Ganow said his collar was broken and left behind. “I cried myself to sleep that night.” She said she and her boyfriend looked for him but did not see him until he showed up in an animal abuse story on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Tuesday night. “I seen it, I went in shock,” Ganow said. Employees at the businesses near the dumpster said they were happy to hear about the reunion,”when we heard he’d been manicured and it belonged to somebody—it had to be around here somewhere,” Dorothy Myers said. Ganow visited Baby Boy at the clinic Wednesday morning. She said as soon as she walked in and said his name he instantly perked up. Experts said because of the abuse to Baby Boy,he has a dislocated hip, head trauma, and critical internal bruising. It is possible some of his injuries could have long term affects on the poodle, “it don’t matter if he’s missing two legs or an eye, I’m gonna love him just the same as I do right now.” Ganow said she does not know who may have abused the pup. “I hate to say something bad about him, but the same thing needs to be done to whoever did that to him,” she said. Officials tell us Baby Boy’s condition is improving, but he is not in the clear yet. He has been eating food, and will eventually need surgery for his internal injuries. While officers have a few leads on who may be responsible for beating Baby Boy, no suspect has been named.
