Youth Town Helps Adolescent Graduate
As Youth Town turns 50, a recent graduate of the program credits the organization with saving his life. “This place change me a lot….taught me respect, discipline, how to take care of myself,” said Cody Fulwider, 17, a recent graduate of the program. Cody said he was taken to Youth Town after he experienced problems with addiction, “There’s fun things to do when you’re not on drugs.” But Cody said he did not always feel this way, “I didn’t really care to be there (Youth Town) at first.” Organizers said Youth Town specializes in assisting at-risk youths who manifest attributes of addiction. “When he first came to us he was down. He was discouraged. He had not been doing well in school,” said Jan Coffman, principal of George Thomas Jr. Academy, referring to Cody. Coffman said Cody’s transformation started to occur after only a week at the academy. She said he will now have more options as a result of obtaining his high school diploma.
