Home Invasion Leaves Homeowner Shot
The community of Dyer in Gibson County is still shaken after an early morning home invasion, shooting, and no arrest. Gun shots woke up neighbors just after 6:00 a.m., and police said the intruder’s target was a college student. Dyer Police are not only searching for the suspect, but they are still trying figure out the suspect’s motive. “It’s something that does not normally go down in our neighborhood. It’s horrible,” said neighbor and friend Rashawn McKinley. Police agree. Officials said the area is a small community that stays pretty quiet. Dyer Police Patrolman David Paschall said, ” A lot of nice people live there at that street, and we very rarely have problems on that street.” According to police, just after 6:00 a.m. Monday, shots rang out after a man broke in to a home on North Royal Street. “They lifted up the garage, and they kicked in the back door.,put a hole in the back door and came on in,” said McKinley. Police said once the intruder was inside, the suspect found his victim in the bedroom, firing multiple shots. But officers said the victim put up a fight. Paschall said, “Everything in the room was in disarray and stuff thrown about.” “My brother Duke fought him off. He fought him off well enough to chase him out of his house,” said McKinley. McKinley said he does not know why anyone would want to hurt the student that commutes from Dyer to Jackson to pursue his dreams. McKinley said, “He’s a student at Lane College, and He’s studying business. He don’t have no issues over there either. He goes to school and comes home.”
