Sunday was a big day for Mrs. Maddie Bell Robinson, one of the First Baptist Church’s oldest members. ” I have been going to first Sunday school. I guess I was about twelve to thirteen years old when I started, ” said Robinson. Now at age 99, Robinson said it’s special that her church is still standing in celebration of a hundred and forty four years of service. ” I fill up when I think about it,” admitted Robinson. Founded over a century ago, when freed slaves came together and formed a fellowship, members said it’s a very important message that has held them together all of these years. ” To me, as long as you have love regardless of what happens you can still go on. That’s what I think, love is what it takes, ” said Robinson. A message members say they hope will bring change. ” Stop all the killings, the drugs, everyone just needs to learn to love one another. Stop all the hatred,” said member Deborah Spencer. Pastor William Watson admits his goal is to make a difference. ” Our goal is not to just have a large sanctuary with many people. Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of people, ” said Watson. Hope for a better tomorrow.
