DYERSBURG, Tenn.-The state’s first lady was in West Tennessee, Wednesday promoting parental involvement in Tennessee’s student’s education. Crissy Haslam was in Dyer County for Dyersburg Primary School’s first summer bus tour. The program encourages parents to take the next step in their child’s education, something First Lady Haslam said means more than just helping with homework. “What I mean by parent engagement, it’s not just the part, it is knowing your child’s teacher, going to parent teacher conferences,” said Tennessee First Lady Crissy Haslam. “Knowing where your child is building and helping them get help, asking about their homework and reading with them.” Programs such as the one Mrs. Haslam attended Wednesday were all part of her state-wide initiative to get parents more involved.
