Bemis Neigborhood Sweep

City workers toured the Bemis Community in south Jackson, with one purpose: making sure homeowners are homeowners are keeping their property up to code. Crews wrote a citation for one homeowner whose lawn was not being properly maintained. Other things that homeowners can be cited for include having damaged paint or siding on homes or having debris in their yards, including old cars. City workers said they are actually seeing fewer and fewer issues. “It’s a lot better as far as the neighborhood sweeps are going,’ said Gary Hardee, coordinator of the Jackson Dept. of Housing Codes. “As we go on throught the years, people are taking notice and keeping their properties up and keeping their premises cleaner.” If you are unsure of what the rules are whn it comes to city codes or to report a violation, contact the city’s Neighborhood Services Department at (731) 425-8239.
