Dyer Leaders React to Fire Chief Resignation
Less than a week after Former Dyer Fire Chief Bob Moore turned in his letter of resignation, he stated he would not have done it if he had known the truth and not believed the rumors that were circulating. On Monday, Moore addressed city leaders for the first time since resigning. According to Dyer Mayor Sam Thompson, it all started a couple weeks ago with a posting on Facebook from a member of the fire department. It is not clear what the posting said or who posted it but what is clear is that Mayor Thompson called a special meeting of the city alderman on Tuesday, March 21 to address it. At Monday night’s meeting, one alderman admitted they had talked about discussing the fire chief’s employment but had no plans to take action. Moore, however, believed the meeting was called specifically to fire him and that is why he said he turned in his letter of resignation. “This is a bad deal and it has been a sad time in the city of Dyer’s history for this to have happened,” said Thompson. “We have got to put this behind us and move forward regardless who the next fire chief is.” Although Moore resigned as chief, he is still a member of the fire department. Thompson hopes Moore will reapply for chief.
