Jackson State Hosts Life-Sized Chess Match
JACKSON, TN – Complete with plastic swords and wooden horses, 32 volunteers gathered in the gymnasium at Jackson State to battle in a life-sized chess match. The game was organized by the school’s chess club, to raise awareness about their team, and recruit new members. As competitors played an actual chess game on a smaller board, the trained student volunteers moved around the larger board for the audience in the stands. For many of the students, this was their first experience with the mathematical game. Volunteers say they were also about to get a lesson in patience – the tournament took several hours to complete.
