Driver killed in weekend crash near Dallas ID’d
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (AP) – Authorities have identified a truck driver killed when his semitrailer rig veered off an interchange overpass, crashed and burned on the road below near Dallas.
A police statement identifies the dead trucker as 59-year-old James Anthony Long of Clarksville, Tenn. His truck crashed Saturday at the Interstate 30 interchange with the President George Bush Turnpike in Grand Prairie.
Police say the rig was westbound on I-30 when it veered off the right shoulder and slammed through a guardrail and retaining wall. The rig fell onto the turnpike below and burst into flames.
Police officers working a lane closure nearby were quickly on scene. Police say the officers and stopping motorists tried to rescue the driver from the truck cab. They were forced back as flames consumed the cab.
