JACKSON, Tenn.- Affording school supplies is not so easy for many families as students head back to school. Thankfully, there are groups willing to step in to make sure students have what they need. Tuesday evening, kids lined up in Lincoln Courts for not only free supplies, but free hair cuts, thanks to a local barber. Nearly 300 children were expected to go through the lines and get things like crayons, folders, paper and pens. Community leaders said this event sends a much bigger message to the students. “School is important to do your homework to obey your parents to do your school work. We hope that they get out of this that somebody cares. we are here today to let them know that we care about them. we love them and we want them to be the best that they can be,” said Harvey Buchanan, Jackson City Councilman. Only school-age children who live in Lincoln Courts were eligible for tonight’s give-away. All the supplies were paid for by the City of Jackson and private donations.
