Tennessee Martin must replace QB, top receiver

MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) – Coach Jason Simpson has the Tennessee Martin Skyhawks rolling, coming off the best season since 2008. He also has a few key people to replace.

The Skyhawks went 8-3 in 2012 and got their first win in 15 tries against a team from the Football Bowl Subdivision in Memphis. They also had an offense that ranked 10th nationally throwing the ball and 18th scoring 33.5 points a game.

But Simpson has to replace quarterback Derek Carr who threw for 3,276 yards and 31 touchdowns, his top two running backs and receiver Quentin Sims, who had 1,092 yards receiving and 16 TDs.

Easing the transition for either Jarod Neal or Tyler Rice at quarterback will be a line returning four starters and receiver Jeremy Butler who scored 10 TDs last season.
