Amy was the second of four girls born to William L. (Billy) and Donnie Stanley, who preceded her in death. She leaves her husband Gerry Melton, of Union City, her children, Adam McCoy (Hollie), of Fairhope, AL, Alison McCoy, of Brownsville, and Amanda Melton, of Paducah, KY and one precious granddaughter, Quinn, who called her Mimi. She also leaves her sisters, Ginny Powell, of Blue Ridge, GA, Teresa Queen (David), of Henning, and Lisa Barker (Joe), of Jackson in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, and multiple great nieces and nephews.

Amy grew up in Ripley and graduated from Ripley High School in 1972. She always wanted to be a nurse so she entered the Methodist School of Nursing in Memphis. She was outgoing and fun, loved music and had some great adventures while in school, including going to a party at Graceland. Amy graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1974 and began a 42 year career in Nursing. She was not only a nurse to all the many patients she cared for, but, she also served as the family physician. Everyone called her for every little bump, bruise, and illness any one had. She was always the calming, caring, knowledgeable voice needed. She truly was our angel of mercy. The family loved to hear stories about her many patients and how she worried and cared for them.

Amy was lovingly referred to as the family hippie because she was laid back, carefree, easy going and always ready to go…..camping, shopping, traveling, she always said yes.

Amy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and Aunt. She and Gerry have been married 35 years. Her first born, Adam (Hollie), made her a grandmother. Quinn was the light of her life. Her daughter, Alison, followed Amy into the healthcare field and was her number 1 nurse during her illness. She and Gerry started a project to build a cabin on Kentucky Lake in 1999 and completed it 15 years later. It was a labor of love and they spent many wonderful hours there with family and friends. She spent the majority of her career in Union City at the Baptist hospital where worked in many different departments including Infection Control, Staff Development, House Supervisor, Med Surge Nurse Manager, and Interim Director of Nursing. She retired from there in 2017. After retirement, she and Gerry enjoyed time at their cabin, traveled to all the US states except Hawaii and Alaska, traveled with friends, and enjoyed time on their sailboat and enjoyed life and family.

After Amy’s cancer diagnosis, she fought a long, hard battle with the utmost grace, strength and positive attitude. She was a testament and example to all of us and she will be greatly missed, not only by her family but also her many friends.

Flowers are accepted but at Amy’s request, any donations could be sent to Samaritan’s purse at P. O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Amy McCoy.
