Memphis woman charged with starving dogs
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a Memphis woman has been charged with leaving two dogs without food and water for several weeks, causing one to starve to death.
The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 20-year-old Khadijah Morrow has been indicted on aggravated animal cruelty charges.
The animals were discovered in a home on Nov. 14, three weeks after Morrow moved out.
Police said they found a black-and-white pit bull dead on the floor and a Shih Tzu that was alive but malnourished.
A veterinarian determined that the pit bull, which was extremely underweight, died from starvation
Officials said the Shih Tzu later was adopted from the Memphis Animal Shelter.
Morrow faces one to six years in prison if convicted. It was not immediately known if she had a lawyer.
