Text message to 911 leads to kidnapping charge

ATHENS, Tenn. (AP) – A southeastern Tennessee man has been charged with kidnapping after police say his ex-girlfriend texted 911 after being snatched outside a bar in Athens.

McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy told WRCB-TV in Chattanooga (http://bit.ly/1vi9VNX ) that the call likely helped save the woman’s life.

Guy says the woman was at a bar in Athens when her ex-boyfriend Kevin Brown showed up.

Guy says she went outside and was leaning inside Brown’s car. Brown sped off, Guy says, dragging her legs across the parking lot.

The woman called 911 on her phone, and hid the phone between her legs and screamed for help. An operator heard the call.

Brown is also charged with reckless endangerment and aggravated domestic assault. He is being held in the McMinn County Jail on a $72,000 bond.
